The World of the Present

I’ve had a pig of a week. Not only has it been a critical period in the development of our Skainos Project in urban Belfast, but I have also walked with a friend in his relational hell, with no end in sight. The deep things were lifted a little by a sort of PS statement at the end of an email from Beth, a long-term volunteer in our place.

I recently lent her ‘Jayber Crow’ by Wendell Berry and she is reading her way through. At the end of the email she wrote:

thinking about wendall berry’s world of the present… “this small, short, surprising, miserable, wonderful, blessed, damaged, only life.”

which she assures me is from Chapter 7 ‘The Great World’.

I needed that.
