Jewish High Holy Days and World Financial Meltdown

Following the rejection on Monday by US politicians of the plan to shore up the financial markets a new plan cannot be voted on until Thursday at the earliest. The radio news just spoke about the anxiety of bankers and politicos who must wait, holding their breath that the world doesn’t go into meltdown. They are, said the journalist on Radio 4, now powerless and must wait helplessly till the Jewish New Year Holiday passes.

Isn’t there a strange irony here that the faith tradition that brought us the Jubilee is now holding up efforts at resolution of a problem caused by toxic credit?
