Applauding Mottie's Restraint
We took votes on it round the table. How long would Mottie go in his commentary on the World Cup Final without making some allusion to 1966? (for those out of the loop, John Motson is the much derided football commentator of on BBC-rightly so, it should be said-who can’t seem to pass an opportunity to mention England’s only ever victory in the World Cup, way back in 1966).
My wife reckoned it would happen even before kick-off. The most conservative was 18 mins. But he surprised us all, and raised a big cheer when it did happen:
32 mins and 36 seconds.
Congratulations on your restraint Mottie, now hurry up and retire.
