A Forgotten Memorial – Prescience

“I tell you the truth, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.” (v9)

What an amazing thing that Jesus saw.

His friends see only the extravagant waste and it encourages a mob culture as they gang up on the woman to verbally abuse her. To them this act was wasteful and shameful.

Jesus saw something however, that had worldwide implications. He saw in the simple act something that would reverberate and echo around the world all through the generations. Such simplicity and something so local is not confined by space and time if it is done to honour Jesus.

But also when we notice what he says we realise that Jesus foresaw a time when the message he proclaimed in his time and place would have global reach – ‘wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world’.
